From
the Desk of the Program Director
Welcome
to St. Clare’s Family Medicine Residency Program & Osteopathic
Internship.
Long before primary care became a hot topic in our health care system,
St. Clare’s Hospital was committed to Family Medicine. In 1977, St.
Clare’s established the first family medicine residency in
northeastern New York and has been building on its success ever since.
With strong support from the hospital administration, medical
community and ancillary staff, the program has grown both in size and
reputation.
Being the only medical/surgical residency program at St. Clare’s
Hospital, there are ample opportunities to pursue a broad spectrum of
patient care experiences as well as areas of personal interests. There
is also an expanding network of community based programs and
facilities outside the hospital environment which offer alternative
training options and rotations.
Those
of you taking part in the three year residency will, upon completion
of your training at St. Clare’s, be secure in your competency as
family physicians and your ability to practice medicine within any
geographic area of your choosing. In addition, you will benefit from
the diverse patient population served by St. Clare’s, the excellence
of our faculty as well as extensive educational forums including
teaching rounds and conferences. Your professional ambitions will be
achieved and the communities you serve will receive the highest
caliber of medical care.
Participants in our Osteopathic Program, in addition to sharing in all
the experiences of their allopathic colleagues, are provided with an
environment conducive to practicing their OMT skills.
We are undeniably proud of our residency and internship programs, of
their value to the hospital and the patients we serve. It is however,
our residents and interns of whom we are most proud, for their
accomplishments reflect so well upon us all. |
